Learning by Design

I build learning experiences that stick: through games, narrative, and intentional design.

For over fifteen years, I've been challenging the idea that education has to be a spectator sport. If we want kids to actually learn, we need to meet them where engagement already happens.

​

That's why I bring game design principles into the classroom. I've created award-winning Minecraft Education worlds, digital labs where NGSS concepts turn into genuine discovery moments, gamified history courses that make the past feel urgent and real, escape rooms that teach critical thinking under pressure, and math games that transform abstract concepts into stories students want to follow.

But I also work with traditional curriculum, the kind most teachers are already using. I take what's there and layer in playful learning and hands-on activities that turn passive content into something students actually want to engage with. It's about making existing materials work harder without asking teachers to rebuild everything from scratch.

The work keeps shifting. I'm still designing courses and building learning games, but now I'm more focused on systems that let me tackle bigger ideas without sacrificing quality: creating curriculum that doesn't just check boxes but changes how students see what's possible.
